Sand is one of the essential operating materials for any locomotive. It increases friction during starting and braking, especially under difficult weather conditions, and is fed from the locomotive’s sand tanks through pipes between the wheel and rail. Sand is replenished at depots along with coal, water, or diesel.
The Auhagen model is based on a standard design used, for example, at the Berlin-Schöneweide and Lutherstadt Wittenberg depots. The model is highly detailed. The position of the sand tank next to the tower can be freely chosen. Connection is made via a flexible hose. For use with roadbed track, risers are included.
